Full Sessions v Mini Sessions – Which is the best fit for your family?

There are so many factors that come into play when booking your photography session.  Some families opt for yearly or even more frequent sessions to freeze your season of life while others just want a quick session around the holidays.  There is no right or wrong, it’s all about what works for your family. Here I am going to break down the difference between a mini session and a full session so you can have a better understanding of each and choose the best fit for your family!

Full Sessions

First, let’s break down a full session. Full sessions can be booked year round, not just when a photographer (myself or another set up specific dates).  They are typically 1 to 2+ hours long (newborn sessions are 2+ hours to allow for changing, feeding, etc.).  There is also a lot more planning that goes into a full session. I want to get to know your family, what makes your littles light up, your favorite things to do as a family. I am here to help you choose the perfect location to fit the vibe you are going for and help you style your outfits if you are struggling with what to wear. Most sessions (excluding newborns) are an hour long which allows time for everyone to warm up, play as a family and just have fun while I capture all of the beautiful moments as they unfold. When you book a full session, you will get 50+ high resolution images that you can print directly from your online gallery.

Mini Sessions

Next up, mini sessions. Mini sessions are typically offered a few times a year.  They are great for families that are not ready to invest in a full session but still want to get updated family photos.  They are both cost and time effective for both the photographer and client which is why photographers (myself included) will pre-determine all of the details of the session including the date, time and location and book sessions back to back.  As the name suggests, mini sessions are just that – mini!  They are usually only 10-15 minutes long, which makes them less personalized. However, you would be surprised how many photos can be captured in just 10 minutes!  When you book a mini session, you will get 20-25 high resolution images that you can print directly from your online gallery.

So which one is right for your family?  Mini sessions are most ideal if you are on a tight budget, don’t want a lot of photos and are willing to leave details such as the date, time and location up to your photographer.  Mini sessions are perfect for pregnancy announcements, cake smashes and holiday cards.  Full sessions are most ideal if you have a larger budget, have a specific vision, want significantly more images and are really looking to have your family photographed in a raw and beautiful way as it allows time for the beauty in the chaos to be photographed.  Full sessions are perfect for maternity, newborn, family, and extended family sessions.
